Employer Discretions

Can employers continue to consent to early retirement?

Members no longer need their employers’ permission to retire once they reach age 55.  If a member is retiring before their normal pension age then their pension benefits will be reduced, however employers have discretion whether to waive reductions to early retirement benefits.  Employers also have a new discretion whether to apply the 85 year rule to early retirements below age 60.
